D4 pushing snow

I know... 3 inches of powder don't justify starting the D4 . I could have used the plow truck. It would have been faster, easier, cheaper, warmer, but where is the fun in that! The D4 done quite well. Only one mishap. I forgot to put a carter key in one of the pins in the over head, the pin came out and the over head came forward and bent the pre-cleaner pipe. But I got that fixed. I was impressed when it started and there was still snow on the front half of the head. So the old diesel must be in good shape. Think this is the best $100 Cat I've ever bought! . If everything works out the first picture will be of the Cat when I hauled it home in august. The next 3 pictures will be of it pushing snow today.

Ken, beautiful country up there! In Denver today (Sunday) it got up to nearly 7 above 0, and is currently about 7 below 0. Had snow last night and this morning; probably 6 or so inches, maybe more. Roads are slick so I'm staying inside, but will be going out to Longmont tomorrow morning for breakfast at Aunt Alice's restaurant with a bunch of old retired guys. GWH

Nice. We did the same today up here. Had about 2ft of snow blown into the driveway. Nasty wind up here, temperature was 5º above 0 most of the day dropping now.

I used the 9UD6 to move some of the 100 inches of the stuff.
We got just over 100 inches in the past three weeks, crushed more buildings than I have ever seen from one spell. Most all of the snow was very wet heavy type and made for a lot of mishaps. I made piles twenty feet deep with the d6. Just so everyone knows we are located in the western New York snow belt. Only one day of missed schools and such.

It is true that the territory surrounding the eastern side of Lake Erie (e.g., Buffalo, New York) and southeastern side of Lake Ontario (e.g., Syracuse, New York) are the heaviest snow areas probably in the continental U.S. I used to live (as a child) in Cattaraugus County where we had some very heavy snow storms. Ron lives in Chautauqua County all that much closer to Lake Erie. I know of what he writes. My uncle, Bob Howard, was county superintendent of highways for Chautauqua County, where Ron lives, and he fought the winter snows over a period of years with big Oshkosh snow plow trucks, huge plows, and if necessary, even Caterpillar D8s. Wish I could have seen Ron plowing snow with his new D69U!!!!!!!!!!!! GWH

Looking forward to pushing a little snow with my D$2T. Central Indiana is always a crap-shoot on snow. Not to mention we can have 4 to 6 inches overnight and within 24 hours 50 deg F and gone!

Not a huge tractor, but this little D4 would have been useful on the farm growing up. I will be taking it down home first part of the year to clear brush and move around some downed trees.

My neighbor's drive is gravel and about about a quarter mile long-if we get a good snow, his will be cleared.
