Traxcavator 955 12A – new seat time.

When I got this tractor the bottom seat was non-existent and the back rest was in bad shape.
I was going the buy a premium Hahn seat but then I got to thinking – it might be fun to make my own seat.
Mrs. G is an excellent seamstress so I enlisted her help with this project. (she also made my D2 seat back in 2002)
I needed new wood for both bottom & back.
I got some really firm foam at an Amish upholster shop along with some heavy duty black vinyl.
I spent the afternoon sawing, painting, cutting, nipping and tucking and Mrs. G was slaving over a hot sewing machine.
Note the steel sleeves where the seat bottom fits into the steel locating pins on the tractor frame.
Anyway, I thought you might like to see this sort of thing.
It's a great afternoon - under the shade tree - project.
Tomorrow we’ll do the arm rests.

Hello-
Been doing the "one thing after another" dance over the past two weeks in my work to get my D42T moving again. Namely replacing cams and links on my main clutch. Tight spaces and fat a** made it even more "enjoyable". Good news is that I found what I believe to be the cause and can keep an eye on it. Second bit of good news is that splitting the transmission cover while wrapping up my steering clutch job really paid dividends, (kudos to Tried Iron et al).

I've got my MAG in good shape-the starting engine went off on the second pull this morning. It took four yesterday, still VERY acceptable to me. Distressing to me yesterday was that my oil pressure guage registered zero psi. Things seemed OK-I have a small intermittent oil seep on the top of my filter housing that reappeared and I loosened the oil gauge tube and oil came from it too. I have never had issues with oil pressure, so I felt pretty confident.

Anyway, no pressure did bother me. I did the round of swapping between tractors and was pretty sure that my D4 gauge was bad. So I took the oil pressure gauge off of one of the Ford N's I have that registered 32 pounds while running it, and hooked it on the D4.

With starting engine pulling the main off compression, I checked the temporary gauge. It started climbing within a few seconds and hit 30 pounds in short order. Hit compression and started in maybe a minute. Temporary gauge is reading between 32 and 36 pounds at any throttle,(sitting still).

So, I thought I would just share some good news. Next bit of work will be to pull the starting engine and fix water leak. I hope it is the gasket between the starting engine and the main, and not deeper...I also need to fix the seal at the #44 hydraulic control lever.

Anyway, this machine is a real draw to me. I receive huge amounts of help from ACME and ACMOC boards and I appreciate it. Committing $$$ and time are an issue, but just like most anybody, nikel dime then dollar binges seem to be the norm.

Happy Labor Day!
